Diversity in CLIL as experienced by Finnish CLIL teachers and students: matters of equality and equity

This article focuses on how Finnish CLIL teachers and students orient to experience diversity in CLIL. The data consist of teacher student interviews that were analysed using qualitative content analysis identify recurrent themes with regard diversity. findings indicate the theme equality sense ‘the same for all’ both teaching, assessing homework was readily brought up by groups, reflecting ethos prevalent education. Equity, however, not similarly highlighted even though it is a guiding principle alongside Core Curriculum Basic Education. Teachers found reluctant topicalise diversity, at least form explicit differentiation. applied especially academic skills, students’ different linguistic skills more addressed. Both construct as high-achievers comparison peers regular classrooms. students, also criticised being treated homogenous group expressed wishes personalised support. In sum, show tensions between maintaining securing equity adherence type education all may render invisible varying competences, ways learning needs
